About Us

Light Haven Christian Home was opened in 1982 as the vision of Evelyn Miller to meet the needs of seniors in the area. The original building and addition were completed by volunteers. The Home operates as a non-government funded charity and relies on residents' fees and donations to cover expenses. Bruce Mines is about 65 km (40 miles) east of Sault Ste. Marie, on the North Channel of Lake Huron. The Home overlooks the bay and is within walking distance of everything in town.

Levels of Care

The residence provides accommodation for elderly persons who do not wish to maintain their own houses or apartments, or who need a little extra care and loving attention. Elderly men and women not requiring the full care of a nursing home soon feel relaxed and at home in this caring environment.

Accommodation Options

Twenty-two rooms in a pleasantly located building provide accommodation. Each room is equipped with a private 4-piece bath.

Support Services

Medical doctors are close by. Fee coverage includes all meals, general care, laundry, and housekeeping.

Amenities

Each room is equipped with a private 4-piece bath. Cable television is available. Hairdressing services are available. Residents can enjoy outdoor activities such as walking and gardening. The residence is a short walk to the bank, post office, library, pharmacy, restaurants, and other small-town amenities.

Activities

Sunday evening services are provided, with music and speakers from local churches. Exercise programs, activity programs, special music including bands, and outdoor activities are offered. Volunteers run specific programs based on requests. Extensive gardens on the property allow residents to get involved in designing and caring for them.
