About Us
Barrie Manor Enhanced Care Community is a quaint, comfortable retirement community offering high levels of care. It is located on the East side of Barrie, just one block from Johnson Beach and a short 4-minute drive to Royal Victoria Hospital. The focus on enhanced care is the main benefit and reason to choose Barrie Manor for loved ones. Since December of 2015, aesthetic changes have been made to the home, and the community has adapted to the needs within the Barrie area, making numerous changes to care plans and accommodation options. The residence is committed to the physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being of its residents, striving to offer the highest levels of care in a supportive and nurturing environment, while treating residents and staff with dignity and respect.
Levels of Care
Barrie Manor offers a variety of care levels including Respite Care, Essential Care, Progressive Care, and Enhanced Care. Respite Care provides short-stay programs to assist at-home caregivers. Essential Care offers residents the opportunity to live with independence and dignity, with flexible all-inclusive care plans for those requiring low to medium assistance. Progressive Care provides the highest levels of care possible within Barrie, assisting with activities of daily living and more intensive needs. Enhanced Care includes additional services beyond the Progressive Care Plan, catering to residents needing extra care such as behavioral management and infection control.
Accommodation Options
Accommodation options include private, semi-private, or shared rooms, each equipped with a hospital bed and nightstand. Families are responsible for providing additional furnishings. The rooms are designed to be comfortable and accessible, ensuring a safe environment for residents.
Support Services
The community provides a range of support services including medication administration, bathing assistance, mechanical lift support, moderate dementia care, and palliative/end-of-life care. A visiting house physician and 24/7 Registered Practical Nurses (RPNs) are available, along with Personal Support Workers (PSWs) and Resident Attendants. Emergency response systems include emergency call bells in all suites, safety and security cameras in common areas, and a GIT Security system directly hooked up to the Fire Department. A Wander Guard system is available for residents with dementia.
Amenities
Residents enjoy a variety of amenities such as private, semi-private, or shared accommodation, individually controlled heat, air conditioning in common areas, a TV and movie lounge, a cozy front lounge with a fireplace, and a recreation and games area. There are landscaped outdoor patios and gardens, a non-denominational chapel/reflection room, visitor parking, and property management services including snow and gardening. Weekly housekeeping and laundry services are provided, and there is a full-service dining room.
Activities
Barrie Manor offers a rich array of activities designed to improve residents' quality of life, overall health, and well-being. The Activities Manager prepares activities and outings tailored to residents' needs and desires. Residents can participate in brain games, fitness programs, mental health peer groups, and social activities like live music, sing-a-longs, birthday parties, and crafts. Special outings to local attractions and events are organized, and all-faith chapel services are held weekly. Activities promote a strong and inclusive community, encouraging family visits during events.
Dining
Dining at Barrie Manor is centered around resident preferences, with meals prepared fresh daily and onsite. Residents enjoy breakfast, lunch, and dinner in a well-appointed dining room that accommodates special diets and mobility needs. The menu includes a continental breakfast, a soup and sandwich option for lunch, and two hot options for dinner, along with desserts and snacks.
