About Us

Canterbury Gardens is a modern retirement community in Peterborough’s west end, close to shopping, dining, the college, Kawartha Golf & Country Club, and the regional hospital. When you walk in, you are greeted by a bright three-storey indoor Atrium filled with trees, gardens, and natural light. This indoor park is a central gathering place where residents can walk, relax, and visit with friends year-round, no matter the weather. Canterbury Gardens offers a warm, social environment where residents can enjoy independence, comfort, and a high level of care and support.

Levels of Care

Canterbury Gardens offers several care options so residents can stay in the same community even as their needs change: Independent Retirement: For older adults who want freedom from chores such as housekeeping, yard work, and snow shovelling, while enjoying meals, activities, and security. Garden Homes (Independent): Attached bungalow-style homes with full kitchens and maximum independence, plus access to meals, housekeeping, and care if needed. Assisted Living (Enriched Care): For residents who need help with daily tasks such as bathing, dressing, medication, continence, and hygiene. Care plans are tailored to each person. Respite and Convalescent Stays: Short-term stays for recovery after illness or surgery, for caregivers needing a break, or for those wanting to “try out” the community. All care is based on a Healthy Aging in Place philosophy, so residents do not need to move if their support needs increase.

Accommodation Options

Canterbury Gardens offers different living options: Suites within the main building for residents who want easy access to dining, activities, and care. Garden Homes, which are country-style attached bungalows in landscaped gardens, available in one- and two-bedroom designs. These are popular with couples and residents with pets. Garden Homes include: Full kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and dishwasher Personal washer and dryer One meal per day Weekly linen and towel service Individually controlled heating and air conditioning Emergency call-bell system Residents can choose to cook for themselves, eat in the main dining room, host family in a private dining space, or have meals delivered to their Garden Home.
