About Us
Rubidge Retirement Residence is a warm and welcoming community where residents enjoy comfort, companionship, and a strong sense of belonging. Whether you prefer a quiet morning in the sun, a stroll through the gardens, an afternoon movie, or hosting family in the private dining room, Rubidge gives you the freedom to shape your day your way. The building itself has a rich history. Built in 1875 as South Central School, it later became the original campus of Trent University and was renamed Rubidge Hall by the founders. In 1985 it was transformed into the retirement residence it is today, combining historic charm with modern comfort. Rubidge’s mission is to provide seniors with a safe, respectful, and compassionate home where they can feel proud to live.
Levels of Care
Rubidge follows a flexible care model that adapts as residents’ needs change. Support can increase or decrease over time, without requiring residents to move. Care is available for both short-term and long-term changes in health. Couples can stay together even if they need different levels of care, with staff providing individualized support to each spouse. This approach ensures residents can continue living in their home community, surrounded by familiar people and routines.
Support Services
Rubidge offers a wide range of health and wellness services that come directly to residents, reducing the need for outside appointments or transportation. Services include: Foot care Massage therapy Physiotherapy assessments and treatments Professional hair stylist Manicures and pedicures Music therapy Yoga and fitness programs Care staff are available to monitor changes in health and provide the services residents need, when they need them. Wellness programs focus on improving mobility, strength, and balance to support independence.
Activities
Rubidge offers a wide variety of leisure and recreational programs led by an Activity Director who plans something enjoyable every day. Activities include: Exercise programs Movies and entertainment Card tournaments Socials and happy hours Events and performers Residents can also enjoy the beautifully designed gardens, maintained by staff and volunteers. The landscaping is planned to provide colour and interest throughout the year, making the outdoor spaces a favourite place for walks and relaxation.
Dining
Dining at Rubidge focuses on delicious, nutritious meals enjoyed in great company. Residents have input into the menu and mealtime conversations are seen as an important part of the experience. Meals are served in a newly renovated dining room that feels like a stylish restaurant. A private dining room is available for hosting family gatherings, with staff helping create a memorable meal experience. Meals are prepared with care and designed to be something residents can look forward to each day.
