About Us

Home Instead Peterborough is a locally owned and operated in-home care provider serving families across both Peterborough city and Peterborough County, Kawartha Lakes, and the central/western region of Northumberland County, including Port Hope, Cobourg and surrounding area. Home Instead has served Peterborough for over 20 years. Current owners, Glen & Nadine Robson live in the community and have built trusted relationships since 2019. Home Instead is recognized as the home care provider of choice for families seeking competent and compassionate care, and a team that remains attentive throughout the care process. As part of the world's largest home care network, we bring proven systems and training resources to a team that's still small enough to know every client by name. Our care is nurse-led; experienced nurses build client care plans train the Care Pros on the plans and remain involved throughout the care journey and as needs change. We're available 24/7 and can often start care within 24 hours — including hospital-to-home discharges. Whether a family needs a few hours of companionship each week or around-the-clock live-in support, we build the care around the person.

Levels of Care

We support a full range of in-home care needs, from occasional companionship through to complex, round-the-clock support: - Personal care — bathing, grooming, dressing, mobility, transfers, and washroom assistance - Companionship and social engagement - Alzheimer's and dementia support - Home helper services — meal preparation, light housekeeping, laundry, groceries, and errands - Overnight care - Respite care for family caregivers 24-hour and live-in care - Hospital bedside care - Post-hospital and transitional care - Palliative and end-of-life support - Care management and healthcare navigation Two areas we're especially known for: 24-hour and live-in care, which is one of the most complex arrangements to do well and often one of the most challenging to staff. Our Care Pros are trained and supervised by our nursing team to assist with select care and support tasks that other in-home care providers do not provide. We also provide care for clients of all ages, including post-surgical recovery, chronic illness, and disability care.

Approach to Care

When families ask what makes us different, the answer is that we don't just send a caregiver — we manage the whole picture to provide families with greater peace of mind. Our care teams are supervised by an experienced nurse. Our nurses are either directly or indirectly involved in the initial care consultation, designing the care plan, training the Care Pro on specific client needs; and they stay involved as needs change. We also take client and caregiver matching seriously. Personality, experience, language, interests, daily routine and care needs — a good match results in better care and enhanced consistency, which matters enormously to someone who wants to see a familiar face every week. Beyond the care itself, we handle coordination: talking to doctors, hospitals, and specialists, managing appointments, and keeping the whole family updated. For adult children managing care from a distance, that's often the part that matters most. And we're built to move quickly. We're available 24/7, and when a discharge planner calls or a family's situation changes overnight, we can often start same-day or next-day. Families rarely get to plan these moments as they can occur unexpectedly. Behind it all, although we're part of the world's largest home care network, we’re so much more. Locally owned by the Robson family, we are real people, often walking on a journey that may not be that different from yours. Glen and Nadine both support Nadine’s mother at home who is living with dementia as she walks the aging journey. We know firsthand the joys and challenges that accompany care for a senior. And with that firsthand knowledge, and the help of our team, we want to help make life a little better for you.

Care Team

A client's care team is built around supporting our clients and families the way they want and need to be supported. Since every situation is uniquely different, our care is personalized in a unique manner for every family we serve. Care Pros provide day-to-day care in the home. Our team includes PSWs alongside experienced caregivers. We match each client with Care Pros based on skills, schedule, language, and personality fit rather than simply filling an opening with the closest team member. Nurses oversee care. Our Care Manager is an RPN who conducts most client assessments, builds the care plan, trains Care Pros to each client's specific needs, and carry out ongoing quality visits. Our nurse, Miriah, has over 10 years of care experience in some of the most challenging care environments. Her desire to serve our clients with compassionate and competent care shines through with every interaction. Our office team handles scheduling, hiring, training, and family communication. When you call our office, you will be greeted by an experienced Home Instead employee no matter when you call. We are available 24/7. Our wider network. For needs outside what we provide directly — physiotherapy, occupational therapy, physicians, home maintenance, and other specialists — we have an established network of trusted professionals we can coordinate with on a client's behalf, so families aren't left with taking risks by hiring unknown providers. We're also part of the Home Instead network, maintains operating and training standards which exceed legal requirements in Ontario.

Certifications, Licenses & Training

Home Instead Peterborough is a licensed Temporary Help Agency under Ontario's Employment Standards Act — a legal requirement to operate a home care company in this province. We're fully insured and bonded, with WSIB coverage for our team, so families aren't taking on liability by bringing us into the home. Every Care Pro we hire clears a police background check before they ever step into a client's home. Our Care Pros complete Home Instead's Person-Centered Care Training for Alzheimer's Disease and Other Dementias, a program recognized by the Alzheimer's Association for its evidence-based approach. Training continues after hire through the Home Instead network, with role-specific education and direct supervision from our nursing team. Where a client receives nurse-directed care, our nurses train and supervise the Care Pro on the specific tasks that client requires.

Initial Assessment Overview Home Instead Peterborough

Getting started with Home Instead Peterborough begins with a phone call — an opportunity to share what’s happening, have initial questions answered, and determine how the team can help. From there, a complimentary in-person consultation is arranged at a time and place that works for the family, usually conducted by the nurse care manager. The consultation typically takes about an hour or so, and covers the full picture: care needs, daily routines, medical history, home environment, and personal preferences. It also provides the opportunity to meet us, ask questions, and get a feel for whether Home Instead Peterborough is the right fit. There is no obligation and no pressure — families can move at whatever pace works for them. At the end of the consultation, families should have a clear understanding of how Home Instead Peterborough can help and what the process would entail. For those ready to move forward, care can often begin within 48 hours.
